At the risk to give „superprojects“ a good name; British born and Brooklyn – New York based music composer, producer and writer LEE GROVES teamed up with Jamaican – Kingston based singer KARDI TIVALI to become „RUDE BOY“ !
LEE GROVES: In 1996, he was one of the founder members of UK record label PuSH Recordings, where he produced & wrote most notably Terminalhead. They were rarely out of the breaks charts with their remixes and were also a live act that played at most major European festivals of the time including Glastonbury three times. They also made ‘Underfire’, a collection of our own sounds that ended up on records as diverse as Garbage’s 2.0 album, Yello, Batman Forever soundtrack and albums by Gary Numan and Crystal Method. He also produced the critically acclaimed International Gold Series of sound cards for a large range of synthesizers and those sounds were used by artists as diverse as Vangelis, Paul Hardcastle, Talk Talk and the Pet Shop Boys and many others.
In 2003 he worked alongside Mark “Spike” Stent at his Mix Suite, at the legendary Olympic Studios in London for several years. This award winning work included Gwen Stefani, Depeche Mode, Marilyn Manson, Janet Jackson, Craig David, Goldfrapp, Elbow, Dave Matthews, Beck and Black Eyed Peas to name a few. He also produced the music for Janet Jackson’s Superbowl Halftime show. Around this time he became a founding member of Hex Orchestra and created the album “Human Experiments”, a collaboration with guitarist Mark Altekruse and drummer Pete Marett with guests including Sting’s guitarist Dominic Miller and Vernon Reid from Living Colour. One of our Hex Orchestra tracks appeared as the title sequence in the movie “Revenge Of The Green Dragons” executively produced by Martin Scorsese. Tracks from this album are regularly used on TV & film.
KARDI TIVALI: A very young and talented Jamaican singer who worked with Gappy Ranks and a few others. He is on the cutting edge and certainly going into the circle of top class Dancehall singers in Jamaica.
Rude Boy’s cavernous excursion into deep dance a dub, with a chill and bubble-soul goes into perfection @ PUMP UP THE VOLUME (a cover of the old classic one from M/A/R/R/S – 4AD Label fame…)
RUDE BOY’s handling of this mission has been exemplary: the productions are pleasingly individualistic, retaining plenty of originality and professionalism without seeming stoic, dull or contrived. Watch this space to see where RUDE BOYS’s mission is blasting from the state of art …!
